Evon drew the drapes open and looked across the city to the St. Lawrence Seaway. A cathedral and the shipyards were also visible. America was not too far away in the distance just beyond the horizon to the south. He went over to the night table near the bed and placed his gun inside the drawer. Lynn didn’t see the gun for she was amazed at the beauty of the room. Then he returned once again to the same window. He wanted to see a sailing ship with its huge masts coming into the harbor.

Lynn, now sitting on the corner of the bed, was staring at Evon as he was staring out of the window. She then pulled her coat off and ran her hand through her long black hair, teasing and playing with it. She was happy again for the first time in a year. She had found a reason to smile again.
